New Hat!

I have decided that without a doubt baby hats are my absolute favorite thing to crochet. They are easy, quick-to-make, functional, and usually pretty stinkin' cute! When I was finishing up this hat, I thought, "Oh no! It looks like a clown hat! That's not how it looked in the book."

But I finished it at 930 last night and couldn't immediately try it on my model. I think it looks just as cute on as it did in the book. Since I had to buy three whole skeins of yarn to make it, I think I'll make one for every baby girl I know.

Next up baby panties (like a diaper cover). Also baby booties Mary Jane style. I love this book I got from the library.

Ha!

I finished whipstitching my patchwork scrap afghan. I'm so proud of myself, and I've picked a special recipient for this particular afghan. It's not quite finished yet, but it's looking good. I have to crochet the border and decide whether or not I'm going to add the decorative cross stitching. I may skip it.

Feels good to be crocheting again. It always does though.

Determined...

...or just dumb.

I haven't decided which yet! :o) But I have now torn back this afghan for the fourth time. The good news is that I'm finally after the third try actually doing the stitches correctly. The bad news is that the extra stitch I put in happened WAY back at the beginning of this row. Sigh.

I will conquer!!

And conquer correctly.

Back in the Saddle!

I have taken a newborn-imposed break from crocheting. But my baby girl is already 8 weeks old today! I don't know when they techincally stop being newborns, but my friend brought over her crochet bag yesterday and that was more than I could take. So I got out the old patchwork afghan that I had been making squares for a began a new square. The pattern calls for 20 sqaures and I'm making my tenth now so I'm already half way there! However, I intend to use up all the yarn that I have in these colors and make a huge over-sized afghan!

And I just decided now that when I'm finished with this one (or maybe before then) I'm going to pull out what I have done on Peter's afghan and find a more interesting pattern (his is currently a straight single crochet). If I do that, perhaps his afghan will actually get finished before the end of time.

Anyway, it feels good to have the hooks and yarn back out again! And terribly exciting to think of having a crochet buddy as my friend suddenly finds herself with a bit of free day time and promised to return often!

hung with care

After trying to follow these instructions and getting some help from my mother, it's done! I decided awhile ago to just make stockings this year and try for a Christmas tree skirt next so I didn't have too much on my plate. I'm really happy with how it turned out!

Does anyone have suggestions on how to make a Christmas tree skirt?

Quilting Post

I posted some on my other blog but I think my Aunt reads this and doesn't read my personal one so I'll post it here too.

I went to Quilter's Harvest yesterday after work and found some green fabric that matches perfectly. I knew the lady at the shop and she said she may have some fabric at home from the same line that I could use as the binding. It's even Homespun!

Although I'm trying to make it a more gender neutral quilt since we don't know what we're having, I don't think it looks very gender neutral...at all. So we'll see what the baby will use if it ends up being a boy. I'm going to attempt to hand quilt this one. It's much smaller and I have some neat ideas. I'm going to try to find a baby rattle and baby booties and just do an online of them on the squares. We’ll see what I can find and what I end up doing.

Did I ever post a picture of Dan's completed quilt? It's finally done and on our bed. We were sleeping with a down comforter but we found out nothing is better than a quilt. We like it a lot better. I finished it when I was up at my grandparents house. My grandma taught me and very fast and easy way to bind. When I think of how I was doing it no wonder it was taking forever! Thanks grandma!

More post as I complete the project!
